My dad used to make this with puff pastry instead of shortcrust pastry. And you can also roll out the pastry and do it in the oven separately from the pie like below.

Steak pie

No matter if the pastry is prepared separately or not, this pie is very delicious. I had it in a Corby hotel when I was on holiday with my family there last summer.
